Best Sleeping Position For Babies
Ever wondered if there is any particular sleeping position recommended by doctors for your baby ? Learn about the safest sleeping position for your baby and other precautions you must take to keep the little one healthy & safe.
One of the things that new parents always wonder about is the best position to put their baby to sleep so that they feel comfortable, remain safe and sleep for longer duration at a time.
Today we will discuss not only the best position to put your baby to sleep, discuss the primary reasons why it is extremely critical that you use that position but also discuss other precautions you should take.
Best Sleeping Position for a Baby
You should always put your baby to sleep on their back (No surprises there we hope). Now that you know the best position, what is much more important is the reason behind it. The answer to that is because of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
The truth is that putting your baby to sleep on his back decreases his chance of SIDS, which is responsible for more infant deaths across the world than any other cause during the first year of life. Findings have suggested that due to under-developed brains, babies are sometimes unable to wake themselves up while encountering a situational challenge and counter the life threat.
American Academy of Pediatrics have suggested that given the healthy correlation between SIDS and sleep position, parents should try to put the baby to sleep on the back as much as possible. If there is any medical condition which would warrant the need to sleep on the side then parents should first discuss it with their healthcare providers to understand additional precautions they must take.
How Long to Maintain This Sleeping Position
Recommendation is to let baby sleep on the back throughout their first year but atleast for the first 6 months when the incidence of SIDS is highest.
Other Precautions While putting the Baby to Sleep
