Potty Training in Three Days

Day 1:-

  1. Get up with the child and take turns staying with them throughout the day along with your partner. Make sure that starting morning, the child is not wearing any diapers.
  2. Try to spend the whole day indoors letting the child play without going outside.
  3. Feed the child with food items full of fiber and fluids during breakfast. Increase the fluid intake throughout the day to make sure their stomach and bladder get full requiring them to go to the potty frequently.
  4. Keep a close track of the child and if you feel that they are about to pee or poop, quickly take them to the potty and tell them to use the potty seat.
  5. Make sure that every time the child successfully uses the potty, celebrate it along with them to make it a fun activity so that child associates it with something positive and a job well done.
  6. If the child is struggling to relieve themselves after sitting on the potty then sit along with them and tell them that mommy and daddy are there for help.
  7. In case of an accident, clean it up quickly without scolding the child. Patiently let them know that they need to pee or poop in the potty and that mom and daddy are with them to help out.
  8. Make sure that the child goes to the potty before going to sleep. It is important for them to become used to it so go along with them and sit even if they don’t feel the urge to go right away.
  9. Put on the diaper in the night before taking the child to the bed.

Day 2:-

  1. Perform the same activities as Day 1
  2. Once the child has used the potty during the day, take them outside dressed in just loose pants (no diapers or training pants) for a short walk. It is recommended to not venture too far and stay close to the house as much as possible. Plan to stay out for about 30 minutes at a time.
  3. While going out, it is better to keep some spare clothes and cleaning supplies with you in case of an accident
  4. If the child needs to pee or poo, bring them back home and use the potty. If you are traveling in the car, you can carry the pitty with you as well and make the child use it when necessary.
  5. After Peeing or pooing, teach children how to wipe themselves. They might be clumsy but it will be a good starting point.

Day 3:-

  1. Follow the same steps as Day 1
  2. Follow the same steps as Day 2 with the addition of slightly increasing the duration you are outside.
  3. Encourage the child to only use the potty for pee or poo and to let you know if they need to go. Also, keep a close watch if you can sense that the child may need to go soon.

Generally, once the child has used the potty a few times over the course of 3 days, parents see a significant improvement in the toilet habits. Children immediately begin to like the feeling of not putting on a diaper and also are not scared of using the potty anymore. It is important to note that even if the weekend goes well and the child shows interest in using the potty, accidents are bound to happen. parents also need to do certain follow-up activities to ensure that the child follows the same routine and continues to use the potty in the future.

Parents also should try to not be disappointed if the program does not work on the first try. It is important to be patient and try again in few weeks with a more strict regimen to make sure it is successful next time around.

Follow-up activities After 3 Day Potty Training

It is crucial for parents to help their child maintain the habit of using the potty even after the weekend is over. In order to do so, certain follow-up activities are necessary for few weeks after the training weekend –

  1. Don’t put on diapers during the day time. Either let the child roam naked below the waist or put on loose-fitting pants.
  2. It is better to put on pants with a child’s favorite character so that they don’t feel like spoiling it due to an accident.
  3. Always keep the potty in the car while going outside.
  4. Continue praising and encouraging the child when they use the potty successfully by themselves but don’t scold them in case of an accident (which will happen once in a while)
