1) The Dutch Santa
In the Netherlands, Sinterklaas (the Dutch version of Santa Claus) arrives from Spain, not from the North Pole. Another strange thing about this is that the helpers are not adorable hard-working elves: they are black-faced boys and girls who can steal your kids if they misbehave, and bring them to back Spain for punishment.
2) Rudolph the Reindeer was a Marketing Gimmick
The Montgomery Ward department store created Rudolph the Reindeer as a marketing gimmick to encourage children to buy their Christmas coloring books.
3) Rudolph’s original nose was not Red
The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard.
4) Christmas was not supposed to be on Dec 25th
Though Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, there is no mention of December 25 in the Bible. The popular theory is that the date was picked because it coincided with the pagan festival of Saturnalia, which honored the agricultural god Saturn by gift-giving.
5) How does Poor Santa Delivers all the gifts in one Night
Santa stretches time like a rubber band, in order to deliver all the gifts in one night. Given that Santa only has has 36 hours to deliver gifts (adding the time differences), his average speed would need to be approximately 600 miles per second. Larry Silverberg, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, suggests that Santa uses relativity clouds to get the work done. Relativity clouds, based on relative physics, allow Santa to stretch time like a rubber band which gives him months to deliver gifts, while only a few minutes pass for the rest of us.
6) Origin Of Christmas Tree
The origin of Christmas trees goes all the way back to ancient Egyptians and Romans, who marked the winter solstice with evergreens as a reminder of spring. However, it wasn’t until Prince Albert of Germany introduced the tree to his new wife, Queen Victoria of England, that the tradition actually started.
