Why Babies Cry When Someone New Holds Them
Babies in their 3-9 months goes through a lot of emotional development. Stranger anxiety is the first emotional milestone. Learn about why small kids starts crying in front of stranger and how mothers can help their babies in getting through this milestones.
Children in their young age get any anxious around strange people. In fact you may notice that they starts crying in front of people they are not used to see everyday. This is due to the fact they kids are not much aware of their surrounding and have limited exposure to the things and people. They create a safe atmosphere around them and assume that it will remain same. Due to this you may notice while some gets involve with others very easily while other make sure that their discomfort is noticeable enough by crying their heart out. We as parents needs to take of some important things to make our child feel safe and comfortable with others. First of all make sure that your child is not hungry, tired or sick while surrounded by others. This situation can elevate the anxiety level. Also when you are around people, your child is not familiar with, try not to get embarrassed and upset if they starts crying in others arm. Tell your friends and relatives that he is going through a phase and would need some time to adjust. Tell them when they approach the, try being slow and avoid and instant and sudden movements.
Another important thing to note is if baby refuses to go in someone else’s arm don’t force him to be. Make small steps like first stranger should try doing small talks to divert their mind from the thought that they are not known. Have your baby in your arms while others are chatting and make conversations including your baby here and there in those talks. Then have those people play with your child while you are still holding them. Then hand him to other person while your are still close and the proximity of your child. This way he is assured that his mother is around them. Show up in the middle and gone for small intervals to make him comfortable in your absence, try to leave him in the room with others but make sure to make small quick visit to assure your child that your are around and will come back to take him back. This will reduce the fear of left alone with unknown people. Note that this all wont be accomplished in a single try and you have to make this progress slowly step by step and introducing your baby with small changes.
New moms try to avoid being with others be it their friends, relatives or neighbors. Go out take your baby with you in parks or stroll, have them know that there are more new faces in the world other than his parents. Don’t hesitate. Children needs patience and your understanding to get through this phase of emotional development.
